9 Must-Try Features in FS25: Get Ready to Plow Ahead!
Farming Simulator 25 is set to launch in November, but we’re already buzzing with excitement about the new features that have been revealed so far, though there’s still much to be discovered. In this article, we’ll explore the confirmed features that have us thrilled, based on what was showcased at FarmCon 2024 and other game footage.
Enhanced Weather, Fog, and Water Physics in FS25
As with any game that includes a year in its title, each new edition brings notable graphical upgrades, and FS25 is no different. The latest iteration of the Giants Engine introduces impressive enhancements to environmental rendering, such as atmospheric fog, more dynamic and visually captivating weather changes, and realistic cloud cover.
These improvements don’t stop at weather, though. Fluid dynamics now apply to bodies of water, tire tracks create realistic ground deformation, and much more. The visuals are stunning, and we’re excited to experience the full extent of this enhanced realism.
Build Your Dream Farmhouse: Construction Projects in FS25
In the past, constructing buildings was an instant process, you’d pay the full cost, place the structure, and be done. However, FS25 is introducing a new farmhouse construction system. Instead of immediately placing a finished home, you’ll now be able to set up construction sites that require resources to gradually build into a complete farmhouse.
While the specifics, such as costs, required materials, and available options, are still unknown, the mention of “vintage sites” suggests there could be more variety. Some players might see this as an extra step, but we’re excited about the added immersion and sense of progression this system will bring.
Set Sail: Ferry, Boats, and Ships Added to FS25
The addition of ships in Farming Simulator 25 brings exciting opportunities for large-scale farming operations, offering the ability to transport vast quantities of goods over water. For smaller-scale needs, boats offer a flexible solution for navigating rivers, canals, and coastal areas, making them ideal for moving supplies or delivering products to local markets. Ferries introduce a new dynamic by allowing players to transport not only goods but also vehicles and equipment across water, adding a fresh layer of strategy to farm logistics.
The East Asian Experience: New Map in FS25
Farming Simulator is stepping beyond its usual European focus. As highlighted in the cinematic trailer, FS25 will shine a spotlight on East Asian farming, introducing new crops and animals that are native to the region. This shift promises a refreshing change from previous maps, which typically alternated between the vast American Midwest and the European countryside.
While specific details about the map are still scarce, speculation is running high. It’s likely that the “beginner” mode will start players off with a fully established rice paddy and the necessary tools to begin farming. There’s also a strong possibility of a buffalo pen, complete with everything needed to care for them, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but it seems like a natural fit.
FS25: Raising Buffalo and Expanding Your Ranch
Animals have always been a regular part of the new features in Farming Simulator, but this is the first time the game ventures into “exotic” livestock. While specific details are limited, much like the East Asian map, promotional materials strongly suggest that buffalo will be added to the animal dealer’s roster.
The press release mentions “new animals” in the plural, which raises the question: Is this just a figure of speech, or does it mean more than just water buffalo will be introduced? It’s possible it could simply refer to different breeds of water buffalo. These animals are expected to function similarly to cows, producing milk, slurry, and manure.
The Farmer’s Market: Fresh Opportunities in FS25
While the farmer’s market has been present in Farming Simulator, it has functioned much like any other selling point, such as a supermarket, practical, but not particularly unique. However, that seems to be changing in Farming Simulator 25. The Farmer’s Market will now offer a new level of interactivity, allowing players to enter the building and explore it. The shelves will be stocked with the products you deliver.
How sales will differ remains unclear, but it seems designed for smaller-scale operations, possibly featuring independent market stalls. Some fans are speculating about NPC interactions, person-to-person trading, or even setting your own prices, though none of this is confirmed yet.
Evolving Productions: Key Changes in FS25
When it comes to production lines in FS25, there are two things we’re excited about: what we already know, and what we don’t. While that might sound a bit confusing, let us explain.
One confirmed addition is the introduction of smaller production buildings. These seem to be compact sheds equipped with power tools, likely offering a more affordable option than the large five-figure production buildings. While these smaller setups will probably produce goods at a slower rate, they could be perfect for smaller farms looking to get into production lines earlier, which we’re thrilled about.
As for what remains unknown, we’re still guessing about what new production lines might be introduced. Production systems were a big hit in FS22, and the DLC only strengthened their commitment to expanding this feature. What these new lines will be is still a mystery, but with the East Asian theme, we’re hoping for something related to soybeans, such as soy sauce or tofu production. At this point, though, it’s anyone’s guess.
Precision Farming: GPS and AI Worker Upgrades in FS25
Farming large fields can get pretty tedious, even for the biggest FS fans. One way the game helps ease that is with AI workers, allowing multiple tasks to be done simultaneously for a small fee. However, while they got the job done, they weren’t perfect, missing corners, getting stuck on objects, and skipping headlands. But the new GPS system in FS25 promises to make things run smoother than ever.
With the GPS feature, you’ll be able to activate navigation on a vehicle, similar to what real-world tractors have used for years. This will create an automated path for the vehicle to follow on its own, allowing you to automate tasks without needing to hire an AI worker. And when you do hire them, they’ll operate with a more advanced system for better efficiency.
Plant, Grow, Harvest: Rice Farming in FS25
And now, the most obvious addition: rice farming. As part of the East Asian theme, two varieties of rice will be included in the new crop selection. This crop comes with its own unique farming process. Instead of using seeds, rice saplings are grown in greenhouses and then planted in fields with a specialized planter. These fields need to be flooded with water using pumps. While long-grain rice can be harvested with a standard harvester, short-grain rice requires a dedicated rice harvester.
This adds a fresh and interesting dynamic to farming, with a process that feels less tedious compared to crops like sugarcane. We’re also hoping that rice can be processed further at production points, maybe even into rice flour.
