From 2D Tracks to 3D Terrain: What to Expect in FS25

In a recent presentation at FarmCon, more details about terrain displacement in Farming Simulator 25 were revealed, clarifying a common misconception. Many players expected the feature to work similarly to the popular Terra Farm mod, but it’s actually closer to the tire track system found in Farming Simulator 22, albeit with significant improvements.

Currently, in Farming Simulator 22, tire tracks are simply 2D images applied to the ground surface that disappear after a while. However, in Farming Simulator 25, you’ll be able to leave actual 3D ruts in the terrain. These ruts will change depending on factors like the weight and tire width of your machinery, as well as the hardness of the surface you’re driving on. For example, softer, freshly plowed fields will have deeper ruts compared to a recently harvested field. Additionally, if you drive over a rut that’s already been created, your vehicle will react realistically, bouncing over the track just as it would in real life.

The game will also feature a higher terrain resolution. While Farming Simulator 22 uses a 2-meter mesh, Farming Simulator 25 will introduce a 1-meter mesh for more detailed and natural-looking field edges.

For players who appreciate realism, there’s another exciting new feature: mud accumulation on tires. Mud will cake onto your tractor’s tires as you work the field, and it will build up over time. When you leave the field and head onto the road, you’ll see particle effects as the mud falls off, enhancing the overall realism of the farming experience.
