The Journey of Map Creation in Farming Simulator 25

I just listened to today’s interview with Florian Busse, where he explains both the method and the concept behind choosing a location for a new map. He discussed Riverbend Springs for the upcoming FS25 and the Elmcreek map in FS22.

Florian mentions, and I completely agree, that finding a suitable map location is particularly challenging, especially in America, where all facilities, sales points, and production areas can be found within a 2-kilometer radius.

He also points out that completely flat maps can become boring after a short time. I wholeheartedly agree. As those familiar with my work know, my maps are never completely flat. Take, for example, the Alma, Missouri map, which I believe is quite a successful American map.

So, what makes Alma successful? The key is to design a landscape that feels authentic, combining real locations with imaginary elements, much like any art form created in the artist’s mind.

Of course, I’m not claiming to be better than any other map maker. There are many from whom I still learn and apply new techniques to my maps.

I was fortunate to find Alma town when searching for a new map location. The area had a great layout for the train station and tracks that fit perfectly into the terrain. However, I still had to add imaginary elements like production and sales points.

The total area of the Alma map was a little over 3×3 kilometers, and it was necessary to “squeeze” that into a 2×2 map, arranging all elements and connecting roads to ensure accessibility throughout.

Creating quality maps also involves making unique 3D models and objects. For this, basic knowledge of 3D modeling software like Blender and Substance Painter is essential. For Alma, I created over 30 unique objects modeled after real-life counterparts.

Looking ahead, I plan to implement these techniques in the map you’ve chosen and voted for: Murray, Iowa, which will be my first “new” map in FS25. I’ll stick to the real terrain, incorporating new elements for good playability and an appealing look.

In FS25, I plan to convert my existing maps, including the two base Giant maps, Goldcrest Valley and Ravenport, since I have already modeled them in Blender. I just need to add the new FS25 textures. The first new map in FS25 will be Murray. After that, who knows?

Finally, I am thrilled with what I saw today in the FarmCon videos and presentations. Thanks to Farmer Cop and Djgoham Gaming, Farming Simulator 25 looks fantastic!

What are your impressions after seeing the new FS25 features?
